Day 6 of Lent – Tuesday

Daily Scriptures:

Isaiah 55:10-11

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Psalm 34:4-7, 16-19

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. 6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. 17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. 19 A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;

Matthew 6:7-15

7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ” ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ‘ 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Lenten Prayers:

Father,
look on us, your children.
Through the discipline of Lent
help us to grow in our desire for you.

If our desire to seek you is weak,
if it has to compete with so many other desires that choke it out,
then please help us to renew a strong desire to seek you.
We want to be disciples –
those who love Jesus, are one with Jesus in our desires,
and choose to follow Jesus daily.

Intercessions:

Praise to Christ, who has given us Himself as the bread from heaven.
Let us pray to Him, saying:
Jesus, please feed and heal our souls; come to strengthen us.

Lord, give us an open heart to receive your word,
– that we may bring forth fruit for you kingdom.
Make us eager to work with you in building a better world,
– a world that may listen and receive the Gospel of Peace.
We confess, Lord, that we have sinned,
– wash us clean through your gift of forgiveness.

Closing Prayer:

Father,
I know your love for me is limitless beyond imagining.
You care for me as a loving parent.
Through my smallest Lenten sacrifices,
help me to become less selfish
and more aware of your ways.
Fan the flame of my desire
to draw ever closer to you.
Guide me to seek your love.

Amen.
