October Update

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…” – Ephesians 3:20

Fall is upon us and we’re excited to give you an update and highlight some of the exciting Compassion First Projects you helped set in MOTION. Your generosity, both financially and relationally, has helped these organizations grow. We are actively witnessing God’s hand in the lives of people across the globe.

Thank you for supporting these organizations and for your commitment to being like Jesus to your neighbors and to the world.

Project Updates

F – Fight

Fight Sex Trafficking and Poverty

Spotlight on Project #5: Tearfund

Through your generous support and prayers, Tearfund is giving hope to children and families in India. This anti-trafficking organization helps families secure stable income and keep their children safe. These families can dream about the future and even send their children to school. Currently, 675 kids are enrolled in school and preparing for the next chapter of their lives.

Small Business Support
Tearfund also utilizes your generous donations to help vulnerable families set up small businesses for self-sustenance. 20 families have already received the financial and technical support they need to help generate personal income.

Securing Land for Homeless
Homeless Mahadalit (crushed) families do not have land under the current government scheme. Generations of Mahadalit have never owned land in their name and continue to be marginalized and exploited by rich and powerful people.

With the help of your donations, Tearfund identified 110 Mahadalit needy families from three villages. These families were trained and mobilized to claim land from the government for housing. We’re praising God that 18 families have successfully received their plots and the rest are waiting for verifications and clearance.

Tearfund’s purpose is to follow Jesus wherever the need is greatest. If you would like to learn more about this amazing organization, visit their website here.

I – INVEST

Invest in High-Impact Ministries

Spotlight on Project #19: Powerhouse Ministries

We love this local ministry because it’s changing the lives of people in our community. For 27 years, Powerhouse has seen God move lives from darkness to light, addiction to restoration, and loss to redemption.

Powerhouse has both a two-year residential program for women and children and a Leadership Academy. They support the residents with a tailored program designed to provide relationships, training, and structure. Residents regularly meet with mentors, case managers, and team leaders to tackle finances, identity, boundaries, life skills, and more.

We have a unique relationship with Powerhouse because we not only support their Leadership Academy financially, we also invest relationally.

Financially, we support internships for the residents. These internships allow young people to pursue education, job readiness, and business opportunities.

Relationally, Bayside’s Men’s Ministry has invested in developing relationships with the residents. From weekends landscaping, building, and cleaning together to BBQs and hangouts, Bayside men have encouraged these young leaders, witnessed them make hard choices, and helped them pursue God’s plans for their lives.

If you would like to get more involved in this ministry, they are hosting “Light up the Dark Music Festival” on October 12th at the Folsom Historic District Amphitheater. Bring your friends to this fun, outdoor event. All proceeds will go to Powerhouse Ministries ($10 donation at the door). Visit their website for more information.

R – REACH

Reach At-Risk Kids

Spotlight on Project #34: Young Life

Young Life Central and Eastern Europe continues to thrive thanks in part to your donations to the Motion Campaign and the volunteer teams that visited the region. 11 camps happened over the summer months with teenagers from 6 different countries. For the first time, they had a Young Life camp in Albania with over 100 campers!

In July, a team of 10 Bayside volunteers had the opportunity to serve at Young Life’s City Camp in Prague. The team taught English, lead daily camp activities, built friendships with the kids and served alongside Bayside’s Global Partners, Al, and Stacy Anderson.

Throughout the summer, there were camps for students in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Campers came with leaders from their towns and continued to process deep life questions with the leaders upon returning home.

Please pray for the Young Life staff and leaders as they build on the momentum from summer camps and launch into the school year, continuing their relationships with kids and families.

S – SERVE

Serve Our Community

Spotlight on Project #39: Arab American Learning Center

Sacramento helps lead our nation in refugee resettlement, welcoming thousands of refugees from places like Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. We partner in service and prayer with the Arab American Learning Center to help refugees settle into their new lives in the Sacramento Area. An incredible team of staff and volunteers help newly arrived refugees make phone calls, complete paperwork, navigate bus schedules, provide ESL classes, and more. They also host seasonal events to help bridge the gap between cultures and share life experiences.

By God’s grace and provision, the ministry acquired a 3.4-acre property where families can get the resources and help they need. When it’s fully remodeled, it will have a gathering space for church services and youth group, a soccer field, and a Christian Arabic preschool. This will be the first of its kind in the United States. What a blessing it is to be able to openly share Jesus with those who desperately need to know his love!

T – TRAIN

Train the Next Generation of Christian Leaders

Spotlight on Project #45: Christian Training Center in Germany

YWAM Nuremberg is a missionary training center in the heart of Nuremberg, Germany. Situated in one of the neediest areas of the city, the instruction is both in the classroom and on the streets.

The newest DTS (Discipleship Training School) officially has the highest enrollment to date. At maximum capacity, they use every square inch of the property to house and train missionaries and receive missions teams coming to bring the gospel to Germany.

Over the summer, YWAM’s full-time volunteer staff delivered the gospel to thousands of homes across the city of Nuremberg! Keep them in your prayers as they send a new wave of missionaries to work amongst unreached peoples.

I heartily endorse the support we provide to the Arab-American Center. Most people have no idea how many refugees there are in the Sacramento area. I am a Neighbor Volunteer with World Relief (learned about WR at Thrive 2017) and work with an Afghani family. I have seen the excellent work the Center does providing Christian love and direct help to many, many needy families.
